Per Hammarström


Per Hammarström made his debut 2007, conducting the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in an entirely Nordic program. Since then he has been assisting their chief conductor Daniel Harding at several occations. He has also been assistant conductor to Okko Kamu at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, and has worked with several of the Swedish sinfoniettas and symphony orchestras.
Per Hammarström is a student of the legendary Finnish conductor Jorma Panula, with whom he studied at the Royal Conservatory in Stockholm. 2004 he was finalist in the Swedish Conducting Competition, where the year after he was second prize-winner.
He began his carrier as a violinist, and has worked in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1997 under conductors such as Evgeny Svetlanov, Kurt Sanderling, Valery Giergiev, Carlo Maria Giulini.
